Ok so to debunk the mystery surrounding this film, and trust me the producers had me going, I now know that “Slaughterhouse of the Rising Sun” was made recently and not in 1972. However the film perfectly pulls off the feeling of an early 1970’s exploitation film without going to over the top in terms of being a shocking and disturbing film. Now don’t get me wrong, the film did have it’s moments; which were need less to say shocking and disturbing, however the violence was not pointless in this film, as with most Ex. flicks. It had to do with the plotline and story.

While watching this film, you will truly and honestly believe you are watching film made in 1972, In all honesty while watching “Slaughterhouse of the Rising Sun” I felt like I was watching a film that at the time would of been considered a great 1070’s horror film, such as “Last House on the Left”, “Hills Have Eyes” and Texas Chainsaw Massacre”. It has that true grit film look, and gives you that uneasy feeling as each actor in the film turns every corner. It’s pretty safe to say that I really liked the plot of this film, although it is somewhat confusing towards the end.

In terms of the acting in this film; I found each performance to be unique. You really have an interesting set of characters in this film, and each actor did in fact become those characters. I found myself really getting into the characters of this film more than the whole plot of it. I mean the performances were pretty decent, there were some times when I felt them to be stiff, but it’s something that can be overlooked. The way each actor put their character into perspective and became them, is very apparent in this film. My hats are off to them for pulling it off.

Now looking at the effects, you can tell right off the bat that no CGI was used in the film, It was pretty much all make-up effects that looked like they were straight out of 70’s effect workshop. I mean the effects even looked like they were from that era. Now at the end of the film is where I’m not so sure on the CGI thing, it could be, but I’m willing to bet that the filmmakers used the technology of that time to get the effect they were looking for. However I may be wrong.

Overall, I enjoyed watching this film. I myself think the best horror films of our time were made during the 70’s, although I was only born in 1977, as a kid I was raised watching film like “TCSM”, “Hills Have Eyes” and “The Exorcist” so I respect that era for what it gave the world in terms of horror. Slaughterhouse of the Rising Sun brings you back to that great era of horror film making.
