“Silver Night” was a film that was written by a native Long Islander, So like every horror film that’s shot in my own backyard, I’ll always take the time to review them. Sadly enough though, I have a problem with Low budget vampire films. For some reason they never seem to appeal to me and I get bored with them really quick. What “Silver Night” has against it from the start is that’s it’s noticeably shot on digital video. Now being a filmmaker myself for a while I notice these things right off the bat, not to get off the subject of the film but digital never really impressed me until the 24p cameras hit the shelves a few years ago. Now with that being said the film also started off very slow, and my screener copy was an under compressed DVD-R which did not have the best picture quality.

So yes “Silver Night” was not impressive from the start, and after the fist few frames I was debating whether or not to just turn the film off. Then it started to pick up a little bit, although at first I had no dam clue what was going on because the story seemed a bit all over the place with ghost like figures showing up and disappearing, it got very confusing. but after a while I started to get the point and the film does get better as it move along. The acting is very good and for a low budget film the special effects are pretty dam good as well for what their worth. The script although a bit slow and confusing at times is not half bad, it could of been better but hey that just my opinion. Like I stated above I’m not big on vampire films and people who know me that besides the original Dracula with Bela Lugosi, “John Carpenter’s Vampires” is one of my favorite vamp flicks. Which to most people does not say much.

Overall “Silver Night” is a good attempt at making a low budget Vampire film, I’m sure that big fans of the vampire genre will go nuts over it, as well as fans that are into the artistic horror movement, (yeah it feels artistic at times). So in a nutshell it’s a toss up, you might like it and you might not.
