I’ve heard a lot of negative things from people about this film, many said it was the weakest of the films that the Master of Horror series had to offer. However while the story is kind of lame. Many people don’t really know the good that Lucky McKee did with this film. Yeah it’s coming from my own opinion. But there are things I noticed that I praise him for.

First off, the story is a bit lame. It’s about a lesbian named Ida (Angela Bettis) who loves bugs. She works at a university studying them and everything. However in terms of her love life, every girl she meets is freaked out by the fact that she has an obsession with bugs. Meanwhile a rare bug has been caught in South America and is on it’s way to Ida’s front door step. Mean while while at work Ida meets a girl named Misty (Misty Mundae, going by the name Erin Brown in this film.) whom is interested in dating her. The two go out on a date and hit it off real well. Meanwhile back at Ida’s apartment the rare bug has escaped and is going around the apartment complex killing pets. Ida and Misty spend the night together in Ida apartment where Misty finds out about Ida obsession with bugs. She’s cool with it and the quickly move in with Ida. However the bug has taken refuge in a pillow case and is starting to take over the mind of Misty and is quickly making her sick. The film then starts to go from a happy one into a crazy one.

First off let me just that the acting in this film is excellent. You have Angela Bettis playing a tight ass, crazy bug lady with a wisp. I mean Angela Bettis is really an actress that I’m convinced can play any role. And finally this is probably what I give Lucky McKee props for is taking Misty Mundae and finally giving her a role in a real film. Misty also goes b her real name in this film Erin Brown. I have said that someone has got to take her out of the b-movie world where she always getting nude. (She does in this film too, but hey she’s great eye candy.) and give her a serious role in a decent horror film. And she delivered. I also found it funny that her name was Misty in the film. Kind of a homage to her past films.

The effects are kind of simple, we get some stop motion mixed with CGI. As well as some pretty gruesome make-up effects involving an ear full of puss, and a guy half eaten to death. The bug looked kind of cool, but reminded me more or less of one of those transformer toys. The production value is pretty decent but there really is no big and great locations that the film required. The bug women effects were very b-movie like, but all and in they were not bad.

Overall I found Sick Girl to be more or less like a creature feature than a straight up horror film. I kind of liked the film until the very end. The overall aspect of the film was good, but the ending kind of ruined it for me, like there was some kind of statement being made about lesbian rights. I thought the film was suburb in other ways, espically the acting. But the story fell short at the end. So basically the film is one of the weakest of the series. But it’s not as bad as many said it was. Just in my mind I found the ending to just be plan stupid.
