I got to see a prescreening of “Shaun of the Dead” about a week before it hit theaters in limited release. I must say that the British know how to make some great zombie films. Not only is “Shaun of the Dead” a spoof/comedy film making fun of the zombie genre, but it also has some great gore and some psychological scares as well.

At first I was not really into the film, I found some things to be funny but wanted zombies right away, well we do get them, but unlike most horror films which will hit you with the violence and gore right away, “Shaun of the Dead” actually has a story. There is a lot of character development in this film, and you actually will be interested in the fate of each of them. The actors and direction of this film are what make the characters come to life. With their twists of comedy and horror I don’t think any other actors could of pulled it off better than the actors cast in this film.

Shaun stated off pretty well and got nothing but better. The script was nothing but top notch writing and the dialogue (which you have to pay very close attention to understand the inside jokes.) was nothing but fantastic and funny. I laughed my ass off, and at times felt for the character during times of crisis. You will hear and see scenes related to almost every zombie film ever made, so all you fans of zombie films pay close attention.

The effects were great, and never held back, we have some great gore scenes stolen from Tom Savini himself, which makes for some great gore. A classic body ripped apart comes to mind, and some great dismemberments using various objects. And also a zombie massacre.

Overall “Shaun of the Dead” is without a doubt one of the best Horror (and Comedy) films of the year. it seems that this year Hollywood is being outdone by the indie guys in the horror genre. Shawn proves that. If you have not seen this film yet do yourself a favor get off your ass and see it.
