OH hell, someone help me out here for once. I mean some of these direct to video films have so much potential story wise but always fall short halfway though the film. Thus; this can be said for “Scarred” a new video release from MTI Video.

Now “Scarred” has some pretty decent elements for an indie horror film. Good looking girls, a crazy back story and what have you… The problem is there more time in the beginning of the film spent on explaining the story to the audience than what’s going on in the movie, thus my fellow readers, “Scarred” is a film where the ending is pretty much known before you pop the film into your DVD player, well for the most part anyway.

The movie in a nutshell is about a bunch of friends who go camping in the woods. (Yeah I know, the same as about 75% of all horror films.) They meet up with so camp ranger who tells them this story of this crazy chick who lives in the woods, who spent to much time watching “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” as a kid and now wants to be “Leatherface”. OK so it’s not really like that, but I’m pretty dam close. So this girl was beaten by her father who was like also her uncle or cousin or some shit, but was not really her true father, hell If I remember. They were somehow imbreed. Anyway her face gets cut off by this drunk father/uncle whatever he was. And now in her adult hood she just wants another face, so she skins any hot looking girl running around in the woods and wears their face, and plays dress up. So add your campers in and theirs your horror film.

Now as far as the acting goes, I can’t rip on any of them, because they were not all that bad, not to say they were good, but they pulled it off well, which is a complement to the directing as well. However if your asking if I liked the story, the answer is no, I liked the film for it’s acting and use of shots and such, but the story was way to basic for me, it’s something we’ve seen done over and over again. And as far as effects go, they were just your basic effects, there is one hell of a great face peel though, kind of reminded me of “Hellraiser” a bit.

Overall, “Scarred” is a film that junior high and high school kids will rent when they have sleepovers, That’s typically the crowd I can see getting into this film But as far as horror fans go, we’ve seen this done before, and it’s nothing new and original to us.
