This is probably going to be a short review, because I really don’t have a lot to say. What Rifftrax are is basically a series of commentaries from the boys behind Mystery Science Theater 3000, Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and writer Bill Corbett. They have a website where they do these commentaries (Link Above) and you can download them and play them along with certain blockbuster, and not so blockbuster films. They will also become available on DVD soon with the first of many being the original 1968 version of George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead.

Now I shouldn’t have to tell you the plot to NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, and if I do just go pick yourself up a copy or rent it. It’s a film that you can’t call yourself a true horror fan unless you’ve seen it. Anyhow, Think of this as it’s officially roasting. The Rifftrax are a bit different than Mystery Science Theater 3000 as we don’t see the silhouette of the characters sitting in their chairs in front of a movie screen. They are pretty much your basic DVD commentary tracks, but instead of being informative about the film, they are pretty much making fun of it.

The NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD disc was very funny as not only were there some comical commentary behind what we saw on screen, but mistakes made during the film were pointed out an ripped on as well. One of the things I liked about the commentary is that it’s current, you’ll hear jokes incorporated with today’s films, politics, social issues, pop culture and more. There was even a mention of director Uwe Boll, that gave me a good laugh.

Overall, the Rifftrax DVD of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is really funny. The DVD also gives you the option to watch the film without the Rifftrax as well. There is going to be a whole series of films released with the Rifftrax commentary, so keep a look out for them and check out the Rifftrax website where you can download the commentaries to some of your favorite blockbusters.
