With a film titled Head Trauma, I was kind of skeptical as to how good of a film this would be. Well to be quite honest I’m very surprised that Head Trauma was not picked up by a bigger distribution label. My hats off to Heretic films for picking up, what I think is probably the best film they have ever released.

Head Trauma is about a guy named George Walker whom returns to his now deceased grandmother’s house to not only claim what is his though inheritance, but to fix up and possibly save it before the city condemns the house. Day by day George with the help of his neighbor’s son try to clean and fix up the place before the city officials come to decide it’s faith. However George is experiencing horrible things in the house at night, and is also having nightmares while he sleeps, the problem is that he can’t tell if these nightmares are real or just part of his imagination. He soon begin to discover that theses nightmares are indeed happening, and it seems that only he is experiencing this phenomenal and he people he confines in think that he is going crazy. Now only George can solve this mystery and prove to himself and the people around him that something bad happened in his grandmothers house while he was away.

The script for this film was awesome. It is genuinely creepy and full of many great scares. Director Lance Weiler creates a nightmarish landscape in this picture combining the likes of Asian ghost films like “The Ring & Dark Water, with the suspense of a Hitchcock film. We even get a surprise ending in which is reminiscent of a M. Night Shyamalan film. My hats off to Lance Weiler and his writing partner Brian Majeska for putting together such a great script and a great film.

The acting is very good, this is one indie film where the lead parts were cast just right. some of the supporting cast could of been better, but all in all the actors are what make this film what it is. As far as effects go the film does not have much in terms of special makeup effects, it relies more on suspense and “the less is more technique” to scare, rather than blood and guts. The production value is as good as it can be. The script does not require any kind of extreme sets, as most of the film takes place in a suburban setting.

Overall, Head Trauma is probably one of the biggest surprises to hit the independent market, and I must give Heretic Films credit for picking up such a great film. Head Trauma may not be a film that the normal horror fan would like. It’s more of a suspenseful thriller than it is horror. If your looking for blood , guts and violence you won’t find it in this flick, however what you will find is a very well made suspenseful masterpiece that proves you don’t need blood and gore to make a scary film.
