Well I’m very impressed and I really enjoyed this remake. Well honestly it’s far from a remake, it’s nothing like the original but comes close. Honestly the only thing that’s pretty much the same is the mall and maybe a few lines from the original script. Now a lot of hardcore fans such as myself were pissed when we first heard word of a remake, but I got to say the film pays homage to the original, and even credits George Romero in the main credits. There are also cameo appearances By Tom Savini and Ken Foree of the original film. It’s actually pretty funny, Although they are both shown on television in the mall. Tom gives the audience and our characters trapped in the mall, the rundown on how to kill the walking dead, and Ken Foree gets to deliver his famous line from the original film, “When there’s no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth.” He plays a Televangelist on TV, talking about the end of the world and such. There is also an appearance from Scott Reiniger as an army General, He played Roger in the original Dawn of the Dead.

The movie is very different than the original in many ways, in this film we have more characters trapped in the mall, The zombies are faster and smarter, and our characters have conflicts with one another and don’t always necessary agree with one another. For the most part the film takes place in the mall, although the last 25 mins. or so take place outside the mall and in a different setting. The plot is fast paced and does not have much of a message as the original did. The film is more an action flick with no political message about consumerism. We do get better acting in this film compared to the original, The performances are top notch and we feel for these characters. It’s a lot more emotional than the original, each character has a specific loss to deal with, some of them losing their loved ones right in front of them before they even die and are reanimated. Some of them even tie up their loved ones after being bite, as in hopes of saving them.

The Special Effects in the film are really good although not as gory as the original. The use of CGI is great, it’s not over the top which makes the effects more believable. we get plenty of zombie heads blown off, zombies hit by cars and truck, lit on fire and so on. the gore is there, but it’s not as over the top as the original, Savini’s effects I think are still more effective in grossing you out and scaring you to death.

Overall I enjoyed this film it had some great action scenes and paid tribute to the original film with out getting out of hand. The film has it’s scary moment, but it’s also has some comedy added into it, I will admit that I found myself laughing more than jumping, However I say everyone should go check it out, If your a fan of the original Dawn of the Dead. (Which I recommend renting before you go and see this one, if you have not already seen it.) or not you will enjoy it.
