In this first novel in a new series, “Vampire Federation,” Sean McCabe does a fine job setting up a world where vampires are being controlled. Few know they exist and the VIA (Vampire Intelligence Agency) keeps them in check—vampires must follow their rules or kickass agents, like sexy vampire Alex Bishop destroy them.

McCabe has put considerable thought into creating this agency and arms them with significant and appropriate weaponry as well as cornering the market on a drug that allows vampires to exist in daylight.

Joel Solomon, his other main character, is a police detective who believes in vampires due to a tragedy he witnessed in his childhood. Rogue “trads,” traditional vampires who despise both humans and the VIA, begin slaughtering humans in his precinct and he is the only person who believes an eyewitness of one of the murders.

Alex and Joel’s paths cross as a powerful and evil vampire threatens to dismantle The Federation and then wreak havoc on humanity. Their search for an artifact believed to be the only means of killing any vampire has them globe hopping from one danger to the next.

This is a very imaginative thrill ride with well developed characters worthy of a series and lots of action, suspense and gore to please horror fans looking for vampires involved in intrigue and situations beyond the ubiquitous paranormal romance genre.
