Maybe I was missed something that everyone who gave this film a good review saw; But I thought this movie was nothing but a boring dark comedy. Ok well maybe not boring, but; and I don’t want to say this because I don’ like ripping on movies this much, but it was stupid. There I said it; and if you want to know why I think it was stupid read the synopsis below.

The Mad is about killer hamburgers. Yeah you read that right, but the killer hamburgers are only half the story. You see the film starts out with a bunch of cows that looked pissed off, naturally this film is trying to cash in off the mad cow disease that every now and then seems to be popping up in slaughter houses around the world. So anyway there is a local farmer who sells his meat to the local diner, who’s making and serving hamburgers and all things beef. Well after their customers consume the meat they start turning into flesh eating zombies. Now it’s up to a doctor (Billy Zane) and his daughter to combat the zombies and find out how the problem occurred in the first place.

The script for this film I found to be somewhat ridiculous and all over the place. Yes it was written a goofball zombie comedy, but it had this dark humor that I just found not to be funny at all. One thing that also got to me about he script was that some of the dialogue was a bit unreal. I mean, I understand that you have Billy Zane in your film, and the man is a smart intelligent actor with a big vocabulary, but come on, do you really need to make the guy look so dam smart and stupid at the same time. And what’s up with that pot smoking scene, can we say cliché. Totally uncalled for scene.

The acting in the film is noteworthy but I felt the script didn’t really help them out that much. Billy Zane was able to pull a cat (or should I say cow) out of his ass with this script and give a great performance. Maggie Castle whom played the doctors daughter was also very good in her role, but unlike Billy Zane’s character she was able to play a normal teenage girl. The rest of the cast was alright, but there were some actors I did role my eyes at.

The production value and effects are kind of a flip-flop. While some sets look realistic, there are other that look like they were thrown together or were shot on a sound stage. The make-up effects were also a Catch 22, some effects were good while other looked really bad. The limited CGI was also pretty bad, especially the bacteria on the hamburger.

Overall, the only way I can recommend this film is if your really into dark zombie comedies, where you really need to be more about the dark humor more than anything else. My guess is that most will agree with me and find the humor to be something that only makes the writers and director laugh out loud. I for one did not, and nor did this film have any horrifying effect on me.
