Seed of Chucky just kind of blew my mind!! This is hands down the best film in the “Child’s Play” series and it’s the first directed by Chucky creator Don Mancini. You can tell Mr. Mancini loves his little boy!! From the opening credits until it’s gloriously twisted ending “Seed of Chucky” delivers! It might not rank very high on the jolt meter but it should be the blueprint of how to make a Horror/Comedy!! Mancini laces the film with clever and insanely funny references to 80’s slashers, Ed Wood and everything in between! Chucky, Tiffany and the newest addition to the Family Glen don’t let us down in the “homicidal Doll” department either. “Seed of Chucky” is chock full of great kills and enough blood to satisfy even the most bloodthirsty of Gorehounds. The opening sequence is going to become a classic, mark my words!!
The only area where “Seed” perhaps is a bit weak is in delivering high voltage jolts. There were a few startled yelps at the screening I saw and were I not such a Horror veteran I may have jumped a few times but nothing to send me into seizure. Seed of Chucky gets away with it though because it wants to offend at every turn and I mean that as a huge compliment. “Seed” is in many ways a cousin of “Team America World Police” as they both hold nothing sacred and no one is safe!! Also a topless Tiffany doesn’t hurt matters much does it? Jennifer Tilly obviously loves making these movies and she has a ball throughout.
The man himself “Chucky” is also at meanest, foul mouthed and funny self. I lost count of how many times I almost shot soda out of my nose! Don Mancini did a great job and Brad Dourif nails one liners like a an angry Don Rickles!
Amazingly ,especially for a “Homicidal” doll movie, the story actually has some teeth and you actually kind of care about Chucky and his clan by the end of the movie. I don’t think anybody but Chucky’s real life father, Director Don Mancini, could have made this movie and if there is a Child’s Play 6 on the horizon he’d best be at the helm!
In other words GO SEE “SEED OF CHUCKY” !! It’s funny, fresh and lot’s of people die!! Perfect!!
