Mel Gibson’s fall from grace would have never been a big deal if he was never recognized. The film that made him a star was a post-apocalyptic picture that would eventually launch Gibson into superstar status as a character that would be involved in two sequels that would make Gibson an action hero superstar in the 1980’s. That film was Mad Max, and now, thanks to Fox Studios the film is now finally seeing the light of day on Blu-ray.

Mad Max follows the story of police officer Max Rockatansky. The world seems to be going down hill, and the last of human civilization with government in order seems to be in Australia. However, that seems to be on the brink of anarchy as well, and the small police that consist of Max and a few of his co-workers is slowly falling apart. A gang of bikers have claimed the lands only highway as their own, driving up and down it causing chaos to anyone that is not part of their clan. Max and his partner try to put a stop to it by bringing one the gang’s leaders in for questioning, however they are ordered by a judge to release him. Hellbent on getting revenge; the gang member and the gang hunt down all of the police, when Max is the last one left he takes his family on the run to try and get away, yet as fate would have not all will work out well and Max will become mad with vengeance and seeks out the gang members one by one and enacts unspeakable revenge on them,

Mad Max is easily one of my favorite films. It has a great storyline and is a film that is very well put together. The film has great set design, acting editing and not to mention the great stunts and special effects. The film is an instant classic action film. It is a film that I can not praise enough.

The Blu-ray/DVD combo pack has plenty of special features. The Blu-ray features include Commentary with Jon Dowding, David Eggby, Chris Murray and Tim Ridge. There is also the featurette Mad Max: The Film Phenomenon. The DVD has more features than the Blu-ray which include both the same commentary and featurettes mentioned above as well as the documentary Mel Gibson” Birth of a Superstar as well as the films theatrical trailers, Road Rants trivia and fun fact track, a Photo Gallery and television spots.

Overall, as a fan of the Mad Max trilogy I am thrilled to finally have the film on Blu-ray. Mad Max is a classic action film. The film spawned two sequels with another one set to be released in 2012 minus Mel Gibson. If you’re a fan of the Mad Max films then this is a must own disc set.
