A Masterpiece that brings horror back to it’s very roots, of the days of the black and white silent horror films that bought the horror genre to life. The film is a tribute to the days of when films like Häxan and Nosferatu ruled the screen. Although the film is not a documentary about witchcraft or about vampires the film has that feel like a film from past, which kept me interested. The film is set in the present, and is about a serial killer who has taken a girl hostage and will kill her in 7 days if a guy who does not even know the girl, will follow the clues left to him by the serial killer whom is messing with his everyday life.
Shot on a small budget of about 4-500 dollars, “Clearwater” production value is very good, the style and shots used make “Clearwater” look more like a professionally made film as opposed to most of the amateur films produced these days. I honestly felt like I was watching a Hollywood produced film, Andy Koontz really know how to use a camera and has a great vision on how he wants every shot done. The acting was alright, there was one scene I did not care much for the acting in, however overall I thought the acting was not that bad. I am going to point out one performance though that I thought was outstanding, probably one of the best performances I’ve seen in a film this year came from actress Julie Ward. She had me so convinced that she was being tortured and beat up, that I was beginning to think that Andy really was kicking the shit out of her. Seriously her performance was very believable.
The Film was quick and to the point, At times it made you feel very uneasy, the suspense and feeling you get from the film is sometimes disturbing, Andy brings you on a ride that makes you feel uneasy, it makes you wish you could jump though the screen and save this poor girl from all the abuse she is being put though. The Black and White grainy film only adds to this, like your watching some sick and twisted killer document himself torturing his victims. I can go on and on forever about this film, It’s nothing like Andy’s past films such a “them Dam Zombies” and “Zombie Dawn”, this is a serious film, that shows that Andy Koontz is much more than another B-movie filmmaker, out there making zombie movies. He’s proven to me that he has more of a vision and can produce horror films of all calibers. Check out www.horroronfilm.com for information on when Clearwater will be available for purchase.
