Alright folks, you know what, I really want to be nice about this one and try to at least find the positive points in this Independent Production, but I can’t. From an overall production point of view I honestly just cannot in my right mind give this film any credit for being a good horror film. What I can do however is say that with the many flaws that this film had; that the crazy story was very entertaining.

Bloodlines plot is very unoriginal, and I bet that the writers of this picture are huge fans of films like The hills Have Eyes, Psycho, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Wrong Turn. Because this film screams a bit of each of the films that I just mentioned. I can name a few more films that seem to have been the aspiration for the script but I won’t go crazy. There is however the following things that can relate to the above mentioned. We have an old man who owns a gas station, a few mutated cannibals, a dead mother kept in a rocking chair in a room, women hostages, and a crazy family, hell a crazy town.

So what the plot about? Well it goes like this. A family of inbreed rednecks, some mutated, some normal kidnap helpless women and make them fight each other to the death. The winner gets rapped and impregnated by the leader of the family, a normal good looking red neck who gets off on screwing not only the women he kidnaps, but screwing his sisters and killing anyone who gets in his way. However one day he kidnaps the wrong girl, a college bound women named Amber Strickland, She is a strong girl and is the center of attention in this film. She wakes up after being abducted in the inbreed families house in a room with a bunch of other women who were also kidnapped. Instead of being scared she acts as a leader and tries to help the other girls escape, little does she know that her two brothers know that she is missing and go on the hunt to track her down and the inbreed family. What transpires is a series of redneck deaths and badly choreographed fight scenes. we also get one hell of a crazy conclusion to this mess of a film. But like I said above, the movie is really entertaining.

Where do I begin to talk about the script to this film. I hate to say it, but it’s a mess. There are a lot of plot holes that are never filled and there are a lot of pointless scenes that should of been cut from the film. (Did we really need four fight scenes and all the running around in the woods at the end). The dialogue is kind of cheesy in this flick, but I will give the writer credit on character development, although I think this film really has way to many characters and the leads are more developed than the co-stars of this flick. And I can I point out one thing that didn’t make sense in this script. This contains a little spoiler, but I don’t know why this would be done in the film. You have your lead stuck in this room for almost the whole film and in the last act you have simply kick the door to the room open like she was kicking in the tape on a cardboard box.

With the exception of Grace Johnson who did a fairly decent job with the part she was given, the acting in this film was bad. I mean it’s expected the script is bad, so the actors really don’t have much to work with, and did I mention this is a b-movie production. I think I did. However what it all comes down to is that I honestly believe that the cast of this film had a lot of fun making this movie. And that’s ultimately what it comes down too.

The production value is up & down with this flick. The photography is great, and so is the editing although I think there were a lot of useless scenes that would of faired better on the cutting room floor, I still thought that the overall editing and photography was done very well. The lighting was also pretty good in this flick so my hats off to the production crew for working hard to make the film look good. The set design however is another story and while the outdoor locations looked good, the interior sets looked too plain and fake. I didn’t buy the set of the cabin as being a place that could keep a bunch of women captive in a room that looked like it was made of cardboard. Yeah I’m going there because that door kicked in really made me scream at my television set in shock in laughter. The make-up effect were fifty/fifty with this film. The killing and the blood all looked alright, but the mutant make-up looked more like a guy in a really good Halloween mask. I’m willing to bet that they were masks.

Overall, here the deal with Bloodlines, It’s a very poorly made film, but on the flipside the movie is a lot of fun. If I were to review this film for how much fun it was to watch I’d probably give it four stars, but on the merit of not trying t o pigeon hole myself as a fanboy, and more like a critic I can’t give this film a good review for it’s cinematic efforts. All I can say is that it’s one of those horror films that if you can get past all the flaws in the film, you’ll have a hell of a time watching it. On the merit of entertainment this film is top notch, but on the cinematic side it fails.
