Back in 2001, I attended the I.C.O.N. convention here on Long Island. I was going from panel to panel when I walked into a room where the creators and actors of the original Battlestar Galactica series were petitioning to get an all new Battlestar series going on the Sci-fi channel. Obviously they succeeded at doing so or I wouldn’t be writing this review.

Honestly folks I never watched the series when I was a kid, nor have I seen an episode on the Sci-fi Channel. It was never a series that interested me. However being that I got a screener copy in the mail I decided to check it out to see what all the fuss was about. After all it is the number one show on the Sci-fi channel and seems to have a huge fan following.

Battlestar Galactica: Razor is a two hour episode that bridges the gap from season three into season four which is going to start in the spring of 2008. Razor appeared on the Sci-fi channel this past weekend (11/24/07) and will make it’s unrated DVD début on December 4th, 2007. In a nutshell Razor takes place on a battlestar space ship known as the Pegasus. When a Cylon attack occurred not long before, Kendra Shaw an officer whom is stationed on the ship turned into a Razor, which according to the movie means she has been given some kind of power of soughts that makes her a tool of war and is commanded by Admiral Cain to do what he commands of her. The whole episode pretty much put the fate of humanity at risk and is told in a compelling and violent tale of how the series will end and how it will evolve into the next season of the show.

Like I said up above folks I’m not a fan of the show so excuse this review if I don’t really know what I’m talking about as far as the series goes. Although I will go as far as saying that I really don’t think you need to be a fan of the series to get the jist about what’s going on. However some of what the characters were talking about and where things were headed did confuse me at times.

I though the script for the movie was actually pretty good and the character development was not half bad even though I really don’t know much about the characters from the series I kind of understood who was who and what they were all about. I thought the production value was very good, especially for a series on the Sci-fi channel where most of their original movies look half ass, I was surprised to see the visuals were very well done. I was also surprised about how graphic in nature the movie was, and yes on this unrated disc there are some graphic scenes, one in which includes human remains all over the place in a spider-web like atmosphere.

Overall, If your a big fan of the series, then I’m sure you’ll love this episode. If your like myself and have never seen any of the television episodes, you might be a bit confused as was I as to what is going on; but the overall movie is actually very entertaining and has pretty decent production value and good acting. I would say that the unrated DVD is a must own for hardcore fans of the show.
