“Battlefield Baseball” is a DVD that I received in the mail, I had never heard of the film before then, so I was curious to see what the film was about. The film stars Tak Sakaguchi, of “Versus” fame as a baseball player named Jubeh, who killed his father, by throwing one hell of a fast pitch at him while training. The pitch was so fast it went though his father specially made catchers glove and killed him. Jubeh was so ashamed by this that he vowed never to play baseball again and took off from his family. Years later a boy only known as “four eyes” is on the Seido High School Team, he is the worse player on the team and is mocked by all the other players. When the school’s principal finds out who the teams first opponents will be he begins to cry and get very upset. The Gedo Squad is the most fear team on the planet, any team they play, has been legally killed on the baseball field, because when you play the Gedo Squad, there are no rules. The only hope of defeating the Gedo Squad is Jubeh, but will he show up and help Seido High School defeat the evil Gedo Squad.

Sound a little far fetched for a horror film? Hell I thought so. When I first read the back cover of the DVD, I though that the film was going to be really bad, or really good. Well folks it is a horror film, but if your a big baseball fan such as myself, you are going to laugh your ass off watching this flick. It has some cheesy gore and so on, but the story is so far fetched and so wacky that it puts many Troma films to shame. I was laughing so hard at some scenes I started to cry. It was one hell of a film. The script is so out there, and the story defies all that is natural in the world, that you are simply forced not to take the film seriously and just go along for the ride.

The acting is not all that bad, I mean it is a far fetched film, not to be taken seriously at all, But with a script like this the actors made it serious when it need to be and funny when it need to be. Some scenes the actors started to sing, I mean it was weird because they would just break out into song, in the middle of the scene. It was funny.

The effects were alright, The Gedo team was scary looking as they looked a lot like Zombies, with their coach looking a lot like the Japanese version of the Creeper from “Jeepers Creepers”. There make-up effects were pretty good, but some of the blood and body parts looked very fake.

Overall this has got to be one of the most bizarre films I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing this year, I had a great time watching this film, enough to give it four stars, I don’t care what anyone else says I had a blast watching this film.
