I really don’t know how to write a review for this film, in fact I can’t even decide if I liked this film or hated it . It’s weird cause I’m kind of stuck in the middle about it. But there are things I loved about the film and thing that I thought were just plan bad.
Now the film is a very low budget film, although it had a car crash and some people tossing televisions over cars at other people and destroying a bunch of different places and things. But besides that it looks and feels low budget. So it’s pretty much safe to say that you really have to be a fan of films released by Alternative Cinema in order to really appreciate them. Now I can’t say I’m a huge fan but I have been known from time to time to like a film or two released by them.
So what is it that I liked about this film? Well the film had a really good script and the plot although a bit shaky was not half bad. The effects were pretty good for the most part, I mean being a film shot on video it’s sometimes hard to hide some effects from looking fake. But the guys from Morbid Vision Films were trained by Tom Savini so their good at what they do when it comes to effects.
Now the things that bothered me about this film range from the acting to the production value. Now with the acting, most of the time it just seemed dull and flat. There were also some scenes that seemed overall ad-libbed. Now the production value was sometimes alright and sometimes it seemed like a fight among cardboard boxes. The scenes in the woods are pretty cool, But for a low budget film you really can’t ask for much when it comes to having great production value. Especially when shooting on video.
Overall “At Dawn They Sleep” holds a good story and is very entertaining. Like most indie horror films the pacing is usually slow. With this film it’s just right and will keep you interested. They story is very bizarre, but it’s a toss up. Some will like it, Some will hate it, or like me you’ll be stuck in limbo about how you feel about it.
