One of my best friends from when I was younger, always wanted to be a Navy Seal. He trained hard everyday and had the drive to join the navy, get into the seals and become one. He is still one, and although I rarely see and talk to him. I know that what he is doing from our brief conversations, that he is a real life superhero out there saving the world and defending our country.
On this here site, I review mainly horror films. Stories that are fiction but some that can relate to that of real life. I am probably one of the only horror sites that touch on the realistic side of horror. One of the reasons why I felt the need to review this film; Act of Valor, was that it highlights the real horrors that happen around the world, the people who want to kill and destroy innocent lives, and the brave men of the United States Navy Seals who defend us from harm.
Act of Valor is a film that stars real Navy Seals and show cases what these men do, day in and day out to defend freedom. The mission the seals are on in this film is to stop a large scale terrorist attack involving suicide bombers wearing vest with ceramic balls in them. The film shows how the terrorists plan their attacks with the help of drug cartels in South America and weapons manufacturers in the Ukraine. It also shows how the Navy Seals work. From gathering intelligence, working with other agencies and stopping the threats by any means necessary.
I am not going to sit here and write the pros and cons about this film. This is a film that was made to show the horrors of war and the honor for which great men risk their lives to protect us. We take freedom for granted, and we forget about the brave men and women who keep us free day in and day out. Act of Valor is a perfect film for the story it tells, not the film that it is.
The Blu-ray combo pack has many special features such as Director’s Commentary, Deleted Scenes, Interviews with the real Navy SEALs, five featurettes and the music video “For You” Performed by Keith Urban. There is also a making of the music video. The combo pack also comes with a DVD and digital copy of the film also.
Act of Valor is more of a film that shows how unsafe the world is, but that there are men and women in the Navy Seals and our armed forces that protect us from these horrors and threats. My friend in particular is a man of great strength and courage. Although it has been years since I have seen him, when we were younger we were the best of friends. In High School we lifted weights together, studied Martial Art together and even got into a few fights together. But he always had that drive to take it further, and he did. Whenever I think of someone in the world that wants to harm our country, I know that it is likely that my friend will be there in some capacity to take that threat down. Knowing that a man like him is part of the Navy SEALs makes me feel safer in this country. Act of Valor is a film that makes me respect what he does even more, and I thank him for destroying all the horrors of the world that we never get to see. This review is dedicated to him, and I thank him for his time and service and helping the rid the world of the real monsters.
