Wow, this little gem from Korea, “A Tale of Two Sisters” is one hell of a movie. As most people know who read my reviews I am a really big fan of horror films coming out of Asia, this is film is just another to add to the list of great films coming from that side of the world.
“A Tale of two Sister” is kind of like “Cinderella” with the character of Cinderella in it. If that does not make sense to you just picture a movie with the evil stepsisters going to war with the evil step mother. Welll for the most part anyway, (If I get too into it, I’ll end up giving to much of the story away.)
The films is very well shot, and a Hitchcock tone can be felt throughout the whole film, Very suspenseful well edited scenes that help keep the tension and suspense alive. The script is full of odd twists and turns that will keep you guessing to the very end in the likes of “The Eye” and “The Sixth Sense”. the acting is pretty good as well, with a script like this the actors has no choice but to do good or the film would of not have worked as well as it did. But it all comes down to the direction, a brilliant job done there which is what essentially made this film work so well. The effects were good and effective, but not over the top, there was some gore but over all it was not over done like most Asian films.
Overall if “A Tale of Two Sisters” is playing in your city or you get a chance to rent or buy it when it comes out on DVD, it’s well worth adding to your collection, All fans of Asian Horror will really appreciate this film.
