Alright, I know what your all saying. Horror Bob, you actually liked this flick! The answer is yes. I don’t give a hoot what the other horror critics said. I actually liked the story. Now I know this film was a remake of a great classic horror film from the 70’s, but I actually found this remake to be quite creepy.

Personally I think the script was a bit slow and a little out of place. The film had many locations and a lot of jumping around was involved in order to get to the concussion of the story. However I saw past all that, and I became entwined in the story. On a personal note religious films that conflict real life events within them really scare the crap out of me. As much as it seems that someone like myself would not reconsidered a religious person, I for one actually am. I’m not a crazy zealot or anything, but I do believe in God and films that involve the devil and biblical references actually give me a scare. This film did take real life events and incorporate them not into the film, but actually laid them out in a interpretation of passages from the bible. When you look at it from a biblical stand point, it’s kind of freaky.

The acting in this film is pretty decent. The little kid who played Damien freaked me out. The kid had almost no lines in the film, but his look and actions alone in the film were enough to make me want to beat the kid senseless before he killed anyone. Liev Schreiber was great in the lead role as Robert Thorn. He carried this film for me and is probably the up most reason why I liked the picture. And surprising enough Julia Stiles was not half bad, in fact I thought this was one of her best performances. Another great unexpected treat was Mia Farrow of Rosemary’s Baby fame playing Damien Evil nanny in this flick. It was kind of cool seeing a women who is known for playing the good girl in many roles to play a sick and sadistic nanny in this film.

The effects were pretty decent, I mean we get a lot of CGI mixed in with some pretty decent special makeup effects. There certainly not the best, as most of it is a mix between both Make-up and CGI, but there decent. I think mainly the best death scene is a decapitation. The production value of the film is top notch, as well as the set design and art direction.

Overall, I personally don’t think The Omen:666 is a bad remake, it’s not great, but it’s good. I had a good time watching it and it did make me feel a bit uncomfortable. However I will point out that I was very disappointed with the outcome at the end of the film, which I won’t giveaway in my review, and the very end I thought was just plan stupid, but overall, I had a good time watching this flick and I say it’s worth renting.
