This was one of those movies I always passed by on the shelves at one of many local video retailers I was membered at. It looked cool but maybe to cheese for my liking, and I always did that to myself. I regret it later when the movie turns out to be absolutely killer experience all the way through. This movie per say.
The director, a funny thing is he has acted more then he has directed. If you look back at the cast of a few of the famous Porky’s films, you’ll see mark waving his exploitive hand in the air. Then for him to divulge his intelligence into a more promising adventure into horror-dom, he churns out a tasty little who Dunn it complete with a tasteful setting that we all would die for a night of. A horror sci-fi film festival. A group of a local film class decide to bring in some extra monies for future projects which brings them to a great idea. Showcase a few of the greatest old school fright films of the heyday, along with the gimmicks that gave them their extra tour de farce. The movie The Stench had its Smell-o vision. The Attack Of The Electrified Man had its William Castle The Tingler buzzer seats. Then there was Mosquito, with its Pink Floyd Pig flying across the stadium. Only this was a remote control mosquito. DUH! A time we would have controlling the fate of the others watching. Anyways, Ray Walston (Mr. M) runs the local film shop and teaches the class a little lesson in gimmicks. Soon, the old, run down theatre is reborn for a night of blissful scares. But what’s this? A film can. What’s in it? Well, they run it on the projector and what shows up starts the descent into madness that the titular star, Maggie has been going thorough her whole life. Pieces are coming together and everything makes sense. THE POSSESER!!! THE POSSESER!!!!!!!!
The movie could have been a basic stalk and slash cheese fest but the fact that its all about William Castle styled showmanship, like its companion movie Matinee with John Goodman delivers this movie up into my first class rating system. Tons of trailer and TV spots on this disc included. Thanx Elite Disc for hooking up movies that hit the right spots.
