Ok so I didn’t know they remade Halloween under a different title, hell they had me fooled. In all serious this film is in fact almost a cop off of Halloween, with a few exceptions. What I first found out about this film however is that it is in fact a sequel to a film called “Harvest of Fear”. Now I never saw “Harvest of Fear”, and from the reviews I’ve read I don’t think I want to either. However I don’t think you’ll need to see it in order to understand what’s going on in “Path of Evil”.
The script was pretty solid, I mean it was a basic script with a basic story, but more or less it was not that bad. However the production value of the film is pretty much as basic as low budget films get, and I’m willing to bet most of this film was shot using local friends houses and local places around town. I also felt the editing was bit shaky, I mean it was pretty basic cuts, but a lot of the scenes did not mesh well when they segued into one another.
The acting is pretty weak, I mean I have seen worse, but it’s kind of half and half with this film, some of the actors are alright and some of them are poor. None of the performances really stood out enough for me to really get into an in depth analysis of them.
There were very minimal special make-up effects in this film, just a lot of corn syrup and red food coloring. Nothing to special, there are a few bloody bodies and that’s about it.
Overall, this film is pretty much the work of a filmmaker who really loves the film “Halloween” in fact there are some shots used in this film that are right out “Halloween”. So folks pretty much if you liked “Halloween” you’ll look at this film as if it’s the poor man’s “Halloween”. It’s nothing original, and it’s a film we’ve all seen before. My advice is to just watch “Halloween” again.
