Despite being a low budget production, Star Force is not what I would call an epic Sci-fi film.

Star Force has some decent special effect, very similar to the effects process used in the 70’s to make Star Wars, however their was some CGI in this film that was not all that bad compared to some of the Sci-Fi films I’ve seen as of late. In Star Force, the CGI is somewhat believable. But besides from having pretty decent special effects the film lacks in many other area.

When I first sat down to review this film I was very happy with the way it started. A boy learning from a father like figure all the ways of combat in the armies of the universe. It kind of had a Star Wars, Jedi feel to it. Then as it slowly moved along the film got a little out of hand and them just got plan boring. I felt like I went from the Year 3040 back to 2004. From a film that starts in space, it ends up mainly taking place on a planet much like our own. (Except for these little crab creatures that eat people alive.) The actors were riding around in a doom buggy and on quads that looked like they were now instead of “in the future”. It also become more of an action film that after a while just got boring.

The acting was mediocre, nothing really great, but not bad either, I think the script, which had that B-movie feel to it did not help the actors all that well in giving them a great opportunity to have an excellent performance. However I saw a familiar face in the film: Vernon Wells of “Commando” and “Mad Max” fame. God what a great actor in the wrong film.

Overall, it was not my cup of tea, it had decent special effects, but I’m not into this kind of Sci-fi. Big Sci-fi fans of films like Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica will probably enjoy this film.
