As a kid I was obsessed with Transformers, I had a lot of the action figures, and when I heard of a live action film I was very excited. I know most people are not big fans of Michael Bay, but I really thought if your going to make a TRANSFORMERS movie right, with huge explosions and special effects, Michael Bay is a pretty decent choice. But the question is how will the story go, and will it be good?

TRANSFORMERS stars Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky, a young teenager who just bought his first car. Little does he know is that this car is an Autobot named Bumblebee, whom was sent to earth to protect Sam because of a discovery his grandfather made and a pair of glasses that hole a secret about the allspark, a powerful talisman that will grant power to the person or machine that possess it. In the past on another planet a war between the Autobots and the evil Decepticons took place, the leader of the Decepticons (Megatron) escaped the planet with the allspark and crash landed on earth into the deepest part of the arctic ocean where his body could not take the deep freeze and shut down. Years later Captain Archibald Witwicky discovered Megatron in the ocean whom used the last of his power to carve a map in the glasses of the captain of the whereabouts of the allspark. Both the Autobots and Decepticons have been combing space looking for the location of he allspark only to land here on earth to begin the battle once again and to find the allspark and receive it powers. However, the good Autobots know they must protect their human friends and the human race, and defeat the Decepticons.

There were a lot of people who I know complained that this film was to long and that the script should of been toned down to make the story more simpler. I for one disagree as the story is a bit more complexand without the longevity of the films length I don’t think it would of turned out to be movie with more questions than answers. It also helps set up the franchise of movies by explaining the origin of the robots and how they came to be. Sure it’s probably a storyline that younger kids won’t really understand what’s going on, but at least they will have fun with all the action. In truth the storyline does hold a lot of information that the viewer must really dive into to really get the whole mystery down pat. It’s a script that really relies more on character development and story with all the action just thrown in simply because there needs to be a lot of action if your going to make it a big budget picture.

TRANSFORMERS packs an all star cast including Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, John Turturro, Rachael Taylor, Jon Voight, Tyrese Gibson, Josh Duhamel, Zack Ward, William Morgan Sheppard and the late Bernie Mac. I won’t go on record as saying the performances were out of this world, but they were good. You know with a big budget film your going to get actors who give it their all. On another note, Director Michael Bay shows that once again he is a master of putting together a big blockbuster movie that will never be shorter than two hours long, with production value that is far superior to that of any film ever made. TRANSFORMERS is once again proof that Bay can put together a film that looks nice and polished with great visual effects and a ton of action scenes and of course explosions and mayhem.

The blu-ray disc which is the two disc special edition is unlike any other blu-ray disc I have. The first disc includes the film with a heads up display which you can view picture in picture behind the scenes information and everything. It’s a very interactive disc. There is also commentary by director Michael Bay, as well as a BD-Live features which includes exclusive online content. Disc 2 includes a ton of bonus material such as Our World, which explores the making of TRANSFORMERS with interviews with the cast and crew, stunt training footage and an exclusive look at the on set locations and more… Then there is the the “Their War” featurette which goes in depth about how the Autobots and Decepticons were created and how many different people were involved in getting them made to look just right. It also goes into how they did the effects to create them and all that stuff, and the rest of the disc has a whole slew of different things likes a featurette on the making of the desert scene, concept art drawings, trailers and a ton of more fun stuff to enjoy.

Overall, this blu-ray disc is really neat and well worth the money spent if your a fan of the TRANSFORMERS movie. it’s a disc set that was put together very well and the quality is out of this world. I for one think it’s the best Blu-ray disc. I’ve had the opportunity to review.
