I don’t get it, out of all the horror films out there that don’t have distribution and are having a hard time getting it. Lion Gates release this film. Of all films this one with the worse makeup effects I’ve seen in a long time. The sad truth is this films got two things that help it qualify as a great film for distribution, and hats off to the film makers for being smart about marketing this film: nude girls and pot smoking. Why is this grounds for getting distribution over a good story. Anyway enough of my ranting.
Dark Harvest is poorly produced, it would probably have been better if it had a bigger budget, but besides the hot girls cast in the film, I really don’t have much to praise. Some of the actors were not that bad, but some of them were just plan terrible, there were time I swore they reading off a cue cards.
The story is pretty cool however, it’s not bad kind of has a Jeepers Creepers kind of feel, but the poor production value does not help the story at all and some of the deaths were very unrealistic. Example: we got a shot where it seems one of the harvesters cut a girls throat. A few minutes later she up on a cross, and she’s alive but bleeding really badly. However she still able to run around like she’s not hurt that bad. Very unrealistic.
Now onto the effects, Blood always looks good, just as long as it’s red or somewhat close to looking red or like real blood. the blood in the film is fine. What really got to me was the Harvesters. It did not even look like their was any kind of makeup even applied to make them look scary. To me it looked as if they were wearing check Halloween masks that you’d buy at K-Mart for ten bucks. not to believable at all.
Overall, Can’t recommend this film at all, unless you want to see hot girls naked for a few minutes swimming in a lake, but then again you get naked guys with that too.
