At first glance of the trailer I was not sure if I was going to like “Constantine” that much. I figured at best it would be a two and a half star film, however I found myself taking a real interest in the story and the character of Constantine. John Constantine is a chain smoking Exorcist whom is trying to convince God to let him into heaven when he dies, because of all the evil he has removed from the earth. However he is a very selfish man with a very bad attitude, who does not understand why he will be sent to hell when his life is over. The Devil (Satan) really wants John’s soul and will do anything to get him when he dies. So in a nutshell the story is pretty much about the fight for souls between God and Satan. But power also plays a big part in it as well as the son of Satann is trying to take power on earth, by taking over the body Angela Dodson (Rachel Weisz).

What really drew me into this film was mainly the plot and the script, it was hash when it needed to be and it was funny when it needed to be and scary at just the right times. Besides that though, always being very interested in religion my whole life I liked the whole religious side of the story as well, and the use of objects of religious importance and the history of them used in the film. It’s a film that one can consider to be religiously enlighting to a certain extent. So the story is pretty good, and is fun to watch.

Acting wise I’m going to say it was not that bad, in fact it was pretty good and it although Keanu Reeves is still pretty much playing himself, He was good in this film, He really got into the character, and was good at actually being a selfish prick and a goodhearted person at the same time. Rachel Weisz was pretty good as she always is in action films and the rest of the cast was pretty dam good themselves.

As far as effects go, there is a lot of CGI used in the film, mainly in the hell scenes and the demon of course, But to be honest a lot of it looked pretty dam good for the most part. Of course there are a few things that look fake, but over all it was not half bad at all.

So overall I was a big fan of this film and even though I never picked up the comic book in my life, and I can’t speak for fans of the comic, I will say that from my point of view as a person who never did read the comic I enjoyed the film a lot. I honestly hope that it does well enough in the box office to garnish a sequel.
