“Van Helsing” is one of the films that you really don’t know if it’s good or bad. It had all the great over the top action that it should of had, but it had in my opinion anyway, way to much action and not enough story. First off it was a rollercoaster ride, action scene after action scene, fast paced and intense. One thing that surprised me was that I actually jumped during one scene. It had a few scenes where the less is more routine worked. But it over all was not much of a scary film it was more of a fun adventure film that mainly every young teenage boy would enjoy. It made me feel young again.
The Script is not that great as what some would want to consider a cinematic masterpiece, it’s far from it to a point where any high school kid could of wrote it. But I think the attention of the script was to make it an action packed fun fun filled adventure film and in that respect it succeeded. But don’t walk into this film thinking that it’s some kind of Oscar worthy picture. However I would not be surprised if some of the visual effects and the score are nominated for Oscars next year.
On the level of visual effects the film had it up’s and downs, first off the sets were great and the visual effects used to create these sets was awesome. I can’t really say much for some of the monster though, except for Frankenstein Monster who looked amazing. the werewolf and the Vampire Bat looked very cartoonish to me.
Overall it was a fun film, and I had fun watching it, I don’t think many people can really look at this film as some masterpiece, but it’s fun and enjoyable for what it worth.
