MTI Video and Red Rum Entertainment were kind enough to send me a screener of this film before it becomes available in video stores in June. I had read an article in Fangoria Magazine about this film sometime last year and was pretty excited to check it out.
Well it turns out “The Bunker” has more of a war story feel to it than a straight up horror film. I mean as a war story which the film primary is for the most part, it’s excellent. You get a good feel for the characters and the acting is pretty dam good.
The story is about a group of Nazi soldiers being pushed back by the allied forces during World War 2, with no place to go they find themselves entering a Nazi bunker occupied by an Old Man and a young Nazi soldier. However below the bunker in the underground tunnels ghosts of the war are lurking and are not happy with the way things are going.
The setup to the story is good, however I liked the more of the fact that the Nazi’s were trapped in the bunker and the allied forces outside were surrounding them, than the whole ghost story which does not really start until about halfway though the film. There are minimal special make-up effects and not really that much gore at all. The story holds up most of the time and it manages to work out in the end when we learn the truth behind the haunting in the bunker.
Overall I found it to be a better war film than a horror film, I’m thinking most horror fans will just think it’s an alright film with a good war story. But if your looking for a film with a lot of blood and guts you’ll be disappointed. However I thought this film was alright and it’s worth checking out if their nothing good to rent in your local video store.
