I would certainly say that if a major blockbuster is in the works and you know about it, and it’s also public domain, why not jump on the wagon and give the folks your interpretation of the sci fi classic. So when the weak viewing public see WAR OF THE WORLDS on the shelves of the video shops, they would certainly be more inclined to pick up this then a copy of SLASHERS. Ya dig?
Well, really there isn’t much said about the story line. Aliens come down to destroy and get wiped out by a simple virus, the common cold. Done deal.
The whole film as a package is what I’m gonna tell ya about so listen up. Mr. C Thomas Howell (Pony Boy in The Warriors) is the main character in this adaption. His wife and child take off to Washington for a little vacay and from then on, the story goes bleak for the rest of humanity. The aliens come in and destroy all that they see and C Thomas is out to be with his family again. The story is ultra basic. Running into a few peeps and trying to survive.
The aliens though would be the deal that would pretty much make you think this is to cheese for your own good. If your gonna adapt this tale then you better have enough kahonas to pull it off. Do they? Yes they do. They huge monster spider robots are quite realistic looking considering no one has the budget of the Tom Cruise deal.
All in all, a kind of slow telling but very very ambitious. This disc includes actors commentary along with the filmmakers. Visual effects how’d they do that.. Behind the scenes. Deleted. Outtakes. Trailers and more. If your gonna go for broke then a film like this would certainly help get that going.
