I thought the first book, Sky in the Deep, was fabulous, but this one almost made me cry. I identified with the main character Tova so much, lost, homeless, alone, unaware of who to trust and who is using her for her powers. The story arc in this book is fantastic!
It takes place ten years after the last book and we get to revisit our beloved characters from the first book. That’s all I’m going to share about that because I don’t want to spoil this book for you.
Adrienne Young is a magical painter with a colorful palette of words and a canvas as wide as the sea. If you get to read one of her novels prepare to stay up all night because the battles and the romantic plots will pull at your heartstrings and leave you breathless. The world building is so exciting and intricate. She’s set this one up for another book. This may be classified as a young adult book, but I enjoyed it just as much at forty-eight as any teenager would. In fact, I would have loved to see this book on the shelves in my library when I was younger.
