It’s rare that I find myself in awe of an entire collection, but Pedro Iniguez has done this with Echoes and Embers. He’s tugged at my heartstrings and made me laugh and cry and find hope for tomorrow all in the same book. I confess to staying up all night reading this collection in one go.
I have a few favorites. The first one, “Magic Lucha,” is a wonderfully fun tale about dueling curanderas and lucha libres in an arena. I won’t spoil the ending for you. I chuckled at “Dracosaurus Reborn” because it was so apropos. And I cried at “Second Chances” because I am a huge Selena fan and Iniguez’s imagination of her life as it could have been was so vivid and full, it took my breath away.
I think his words will give hope to an entire generation of Mexican youth coming up in the world today and give them someone to look up to. They will see themselves in these pages and that is so very important. Pedro Iniguez is a treasure to the writing community and so talented. I savored every story like a fine dish. This is one book you will want to own in your own personal library, especially, if you love science fiction and Cthulhu mythos.
