THE LIST is based on the best selling novel by Robert Whitlow. For those of you who have never heard of Robert Whitlow he has written several books that deal with Christian faith and thrillers that deal with faith based beliefs and the bible. THE LIST is one of those novels that has now been turned into a film by Fox’s Faith label aimed towards Christians and people who are into faith based films.

The List is about a man named Renny Jacobson (Chuck Carrington) who returns home for his father’s funeral learns that he has inherited a position in a secret society of people that was founded in the United States during the Civil War. However he soon learns that there is more to this secret society than meets the eye. Renny soon discovers that there is a lot of corruption going on and he soon becomes the the target of something evil.

Here’s the deal with the screenplay for THE LIST, the first half which develops the characters and the overall plotline is very drawn out and boring, but as soon as the second half begins it really picks up into a battle of good vs. evil and how one man turns his need for money into a positive choice and chooses his loved ones needs over riches and is able to face the evil that is out to get him. In the end the film comes together and sheds a positive light on all that is. So the script does have a slow start, but towards the end it does get better. This folks is not really a horror film but does have some scary elements, as the secret society, although it’s never really mentioned is a force that has taken the side of evil to get what they want. In the end the script turns out a great overall positive story.

The production value of this film is very simple. There is no over the top special effects or anything of that sort. No giant big one after the other death scenes or anything like that. It’s a simple battle of good vs. evil and one man who must make the right decision on who’s side he wants to be on, so don’t go into this film expecting graphic violence or gore. It’s a religious thriller that was made on a small budget, yet it’s effective in its production elements to give you a film with simple set locations and your basic run of the mill photography and lighting. It has nothing special in terms of it’s production value, but overall the film looks and feels believable. The films acting is also nothing to go crazy about, but the cast does do a decent jobs in their roles nothing special within their performances but they are all able to portray their character well.

Overall, while THE LIST is far from being a horror film, it does have that major element of good vs. evil. It’s plot is something we’ve seen plenty of times before, but the style and manner in which the script was written and the way in which the filmmakers made this film, we’re given a very positive story that is one to please Christian audiences. If your into thrillers with kind of a religious theme and don’t need blood and murder to satisfy your needs. Then you’ll probably like this film. It’s not to over the top or hokey when it comes to the religious side of the film, but it’s simple in the fact that certain characters rely on their faith in God to combat evil, and help the films main character Renny Jacobson make the right choices. It’s not a film for real hardcore horror fans, but it is a film that people who like religious thrillers or just thrillers in general will enjoy.
