I’m at a lost for words. Seriously I am. With all the hype that surrounded “The Devil’s Reject’s”, you figured it would not live up to it, that the hype would just be a phase of good advertising and a lot of promoting. Well folks, “The Devil’s Rejects” lives up to every bit of that hype that we’ve been waiting over a year to see on the big screen. It’s full over over the top shock, thrills and surprises. There is no sugar coating, and Rob Zombie manages to take us on a rollercoaster ride of emotional feelings. Pretty much, you’ll love and hate the Firefly Family watching this film.

Now as most true horror fans know “The Devil’s Reject’s” is the sequel to “House of 1000 Corpses”. However “Rejects” is by far superior to “House” in that all the dandy candy horror fun, filled with monsters and madmen is gone, and we’re just plan stuck with madmen, no candy coated horror here folks. This shit is just like real life. “The Devil’s Rejects” is like Empire Strikes Back” its far more superior than “House of 1000 Corpses” and I’ll stand by that statement.

Now probably one of the best things about “Rejects” is that the characters of Otis, Captain Spaulding and Baby are darker. They have their fun moments in the film that help make them the character we all loved in “House of 1000 Corpses” however in “Rejects” we really see their evil side more. They are a lot darker, and more brutal. Now I loved the acting in this film, I thought it was a hugh step for all the stars of the original film, where they were first trying out their characters, in “Rejects” they were the characters, they were the scum, they were meant to play in this film. Bill Moseley was nothing but perfect reprising his role as Otis, and as for Sid Haig, he might just be remembered as the best dam clown in a horror film. Sheri Moon, was great, she played baby a bit more serious this time around, but yet still managed to keep the annoying presence of Baby from the first film within the character, We got to see a different side of Baby in this film especially towards the end of the film where we saw the lost little girl come out of her. A very effective role in this film that literally made me feel for Baby at the end. But I don’t want to get too much into the ending of the film, and for all your Sheri Moon fans out there her husband was nice enough to give us some ass shots, weather it was really Sheri’s ass or not, who cares. It was great eye candy.

On the story and the plot, some of which I already discussed above already, I will say that the story is darker and different, I mean a lot different than the first film. I would say that “Rejects” is more of a Slasher/Thriller, where “House” was more of a horror film. “Rejects” plays off more like a western, The Sheriff and his bounty hunters vs. the bad gang of bandits. I might take crap for this but the plot kind of reminded me of the “Young Guns” films, which I am a huge fan of. Now the basic story pretty much goes like this, we start off in the firefly house in the early morning, We see Tiny walking though the wood when he spots a mass brigade of police vehicles approaching the Firefly compound. A huge gun fight breaks out between the family and the cops, in which Baby and Otis escape. From there we find out that Capt. Spaulding is in fact Baby’s father, and that Otis and Baby are in fact brother and sister, however it’s not explained if Capt. Spaulding is Otis’s father. From the clan of three are on the run trying to avoid the law and lay low. But they just can’t stop killing people, and in the end it comes down to one hell of a battle between the Rejects and Sheriff Wydell.

Now when it comes to special effects be prepared to be blown away and grossed out in many ways as well. My fiancée saw this film with me and she’s not a big fan of horror films at all. although she found the characters to be interesting, (She only saw the last hour of “House of 1000 Corpses.) she was very grossed out to the point she was feeling uncomfortable watching the film. That’s how realistic the effects were in this film.

Overall “The Devil’s Reject’s” is probably the best slasher flick I’ve ever seen. I really enjoyed this film immensely, and am so happy that it lived up to it’s hype. The last act of the film is probably the part that will hit fans the most. “Rejects” is not just another slasher film, it has some great reasoning behind what Rob Zombie is trying to get us looking into. It has a very spiritual side to it and makes the war of religions look very nasty. I for one got this much from the film, and I see it standing on it’s own for being a film that’s not just about blood and guts, but a film that has a statement as well as being a great film overall. “The Devil’s Rejects” is a horror fans nightmare’s come true.
