Premonition was a film that I heard a lot of mixed things about, some good and some bad. I figured it was worth the shot because I can never take anyone options to heart unless I’ve seen the film myself. Well, why the film has it’s flaws I’m not going to be like everyone else and say that it was bad, because although the film was slow, it had it good moments.

Premonition is about a women named Linda (Sandra Bullock), whom gets bad news one day when a police officer shows up at her to door to tell her that her husband Jim (Julian McMahon) has been killed in an automobile accident. However when she wakes up the next morning she find that her husband is alive and well. She thinks it’s just a dream, however as each day passes she find herself living two different lives one with Jim alive and one with him dead. She begins to realize that something is going on, and she begins to unravel the truth behind the mystery.

The script for this film is not all that solid and there are a few plot holes in it, that just don’t help the film. I’m sure this could easily be explained as something to do with the editing process of the film or the script, however the script does not really have a conclusion that most audience members would except. I personally was left baffled by the ending of this film, but in the same time I liked the effectiveness of it.

The acting in the film is not all that bad. Sandra Bullock gives it her all and is probably the only reason why this film had any such balance. The little girls who played her daughters were pretty good as well. Julian McMahon was ok, but his performance in the beginning of the film was that of an actor who really just winged the part for the sake of getting though this script for a paycheck. However during the final moments of this production he came though and gave us a clean performance. The rest of the supporting cast was small, but they all did alright as well.

The directing by Mennan Yapo was actually not half bad. The visuals and shots used in the film were very good and the matching of shots in the editing was great. It’s just to bad the script was not as good as the filming process. In terms of special effects there were a few things here and there involving some scrapes, stitches and some blood. But nothing over the top. We do get a scene however with an exploding tanker truck, which is pretty cool. So in a nutshell the overall production value of the picture was very good.

Overall, I can’t say that this movie is one that horror fans are going to embrace, it’s not really a horror film, but more or less a psychological thriller that you might want to watch with your wife or girlfriend. Yes, it is more of a chick flick in a way, but it has some decent twists here and there that will keep you guessing.
