A few years ago the only reason why I would get up before nine thirty on on a Saturday morning was because at ten o’clock the Sci-fi channel would play an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000. As a young kid I used to watch it on channel 13, then it was suddenly gone from the air until sci-fi picked it up. The only problem was that they played once a week, unlike they do with The Twilight Zone or Dark Shadows in the morning. So when I got copy of MST3K Volume 12 in the mail, it was high on my list to watch.
Volume 12 includes four episodes all of which run ninety two minutes long, plus the special features which add up to four hundred plus minutes of great MST3K fun. The episodes included in this volume are the movies “The Rebel Set”, “Secret Agent, Super Dragon”, “The Starfighters” and “Parts: The Clonus Horror”. The great thing about the disc is it also includes interviews with some of the actors and directors of some of these films, which is real treat being that their films are getting panned by two robots and one space traveling guy.
The DVD set is pretty good and has a slew of some memorable quotes and funny lines throughout each episode. I have always been a big fan of the series and watching this DVD reminded me just how much I miss watching this show. Sure some episodes are better than others, but equally their still a good watch no matter what. It’s the only way to make a bad movie good, let the robots do the talking and pan the whole film and you get one hell of a great time.
Overall, if you are a fan of the show and have been since the shows conception then this is a DVD set that is a must own. For first time fans you might want to go out and rent or buy older versions on DVD and check them out, but you can still enjoy any of the volumes on DVD without seeing the show in order. If you have a lot of time to kill and are laying around the house bored out of your mind on a rainy day, these discs are the perfect thing to watch. Not only are they a lot of fun but you’ll laugh your ass off and have a great time.
