In what is meant to be a an H.P. Lovecraft inspired horror anthology, in the tradition of Creepshow, and Tales from the Darkside, Lovecracked: The Movie is more in fact a troma like film that depicts Lovecraft stories. One can’t say they are much in the way of Lovecraft’s true stories, however the film relies more on comedy and gore to get the viewer though. As for what I thought, well I’m kind of confused and mixed about the whole film.
I personally appreciated most of the serious short stories that were told. They were pretty good, some of them had some really good well written stories. They all seemed very low budget, and had the low budget look, (Except for the stories shot in black and white which were produced very well). It’s kind of hard to explain the good from the bad with this film. I for one enjoyed the many shorts, but the comedy was not my cup of tea. I much have rather skipped the bullshit comedy and just watch the short films that pay tribute to Lovecraft’s stories. However I personally did not care for the Re-Animator bit. I kind of saw it as an insult to Lovecraft work.
Overall, I don’t know I’m kind of mixed about this film, on one hand the many films that are shot in black in white are good. I really enjoyed them. But on the other hand I found the comedy, well lets just say I didn’t find it to be funny. And the Re-Animator bit I think would of pissed the real Lovecraft off. The effects were pretty good, overall, the acting was alright. But not really my kind of movie personally. If your into the films that Troma puts out this one is up your alley. As for me, I’m mixed. Liked the black and white films, but disliked everything else.
