The new tread in independent horror cinema seems to be the anthology. It worked in the eighties/early nineties with films such as Creepshow and Tales from the Darkside. Horror television shows also added to the mix. Recently a lot of my friends that are filmmakers have also produced their own anthology by combining short horror films in one set or making completely new one with themes. Little Deaths is an anthology that contains three films that all have death based themes.

The first film in Little Deaths is about a homeless woman that is sucked into a whirlpool of cruelty by some wealthy people. However, this homeless woman is not one that they should be messing with. The second film is about some strange Nazi like doctor that does experiments with a call girl using some kind of altered drug. Last but not least the third film, titled “Bitch” revolves around a girl with an odd phobia and did I mention she likes to screw around a lot. Let’s just say the nice guy and his dogs get the last laugh at the end of this one.

The DVD for Little Deaths contains the three films with a Behind the Scenes Featurette and the films trailer. Sure, there is not a lot on the disc and you kind of have to be interested in all three films or horror anthologies in general to really want to check this film out. My opinion on the film is a whole is that I’m mixed. I found the first film to be alright, the second film I didn’t care for that much and the third film was not only my favorite one of the bunch but I also found it to be a great short with a great plot. This is just one of those discs where you’re going to like some of the films better than the others, but as a whole I would say it’s just a mediocre anthology at best.
