Since we have this new wave of zombie fetishism in the mainstream with the new Dawn and the comedic Shaun, a few underground fan favs would soon circulate in the underground. To get to my point, I’m talking about The Asylum studios comedy zombie fest HIDE AND CREEP. Fans of Shaun would take a viewing at this for sure.
Our little tale concerns an outbreak of zombie-ism in a small town of Alabama. Thornsby that is. Gew gew gew. The video clerk, the cop secretary, and some nude dude who falls out of a tree at the beginning are the cast which this comedy revolves around. The clerk (Chuck Hartsell) first finds that the rentings of zombie films a little peculiar so on with a little investigation he goes. To the cop shop he goes to find the sheriff is on vacation. Shit, now what. With the aid of Barbara (Melissa Bush), the 2 go out and find some answers. On the other side of town Keith (Kyle Hollman) and his band of merry rednecks get together for their fun gun time and realize that an outbreak is happening on their end. Since the redneck values are true here, the crew go a blasting and the tale begins.
All around, a semi enjoyable film but a lot of the gags fall short. Not to say that this movie is boring, it just doesn’t seem to pick it up that certain notch to be able to watch it for a second time. Yes the movie is fun, with nudity, gore and such and never mind the homage upon homage references but even that isn’t enough to let a friend watch the film. I can handle this style but not many could. Maybe you can out there but who knows. We all have different opinions right?
This flick includes a lengthy behind the scenes featurette, the short film which caused the crew to step it up to a full length, commentary and a killer 5.1 surround sound.
It’s your call but I think this film can find its way into the fans of the zombie genre.
