My Review of “Hide & Seek” (DVD)
I had hard mixed things about this film so I was curious as to what I myself would think of it. Turns out I really don’t think much of the film and was rather disappointed by the fact that I was able to figure out how the film would end. It’s not that “Hide & Seek” was a bad film, heck it had an all star cast that included the great Robert De Niro, Dakota Fanning and X-men’s Famke Janseen. It’s just that for me I liked the film up until it’s final revelation.
The story revolves around David (Robert De Niro) and his daughter Emily (Dakota Fanning). They both have recently lost someone they love (Wife and Mother). they move out of the city and into a small town to find peace, however Emily new friend Charlie becomes a problem as crazy things start to happen and no one but Emily can see Charlie.
The overall plot and story of the film is pretty good, some great Hitchcock like suspense and filmmaking. The acting is good as well Dakota Fanning is a great actress for someone her age and I expect her to be the next Jodie Foster as she get older. De Niro is De Niro no matter what film he’s in he can play the character and make it work. There is not much in the way of special effects at all, the film relies more on suspense than effects which is rare these days. The set design and overall location of the the film was good as well. With this film everything was pretty much alright up until the ending.
So overall, not a bad film from the beginning, but a predictable ending is what threw me off, I’m sure plenty of people will rent this film the day it hits rental stores, some may like it and some may not. I for one wish it ended differently.
