Guillermo del Toro is a great director, the guy knows what’s he’s doing and it seems with every film he directs the better he’s getting. Besides his great achievements in horror he seems to be doing just well in the world of superhero’s and action films. Hellboy is a wonderful film, which combines a great action packed film with a love story mixed in. the action is great and the acting is suburb, I never picked up the comic book nor have I known anything about Hellboy before I went into this film. But from the pictures I’ve seen in artwork, and have read on message boards, Ron Pearlman was perfectly cast in the role of Hellboy. What I liked so much about the Hellboy character is that he seems more real than most other superhero’s in films, what I mean by that is that he has a real presence and lively attitude. He’s a more complexed character with many dark secrets that help him shine.
The Screenplay and plot are great, and the editing of the film helps the story move quickly. We don’t have any boring mumbo-jumbo to sit though, we have a real solid story with great flow. besides Hellboy we have some other great characters as well and some very scary looking bad guys.
The Effects were good except for some of the CGI demon’s. I mean they were ok looking, but I feel they took some of the realness away from the film. the makeup effects however created by Rich Baker and company were out of this world awesome, I would not be surprised if Hellboy gets some kind of Oscar nomination for make-up effects.
Overall Hellboy is probably one of the better of the comic book films out there. I hope the film grosses enough money to spawn a sequel or maybe two sequels. I really enjoyed the story and I’m not scared to say I want more. Go check it out as soon as you can.

On another note I notice that Hellboy and I share a nickname. HB, They called him HB in the film and could not help myself from saying something about it.
