Being a parent is a hard job. It is something that changes your life forever. You will do anything for your kids, especially when they are in danger. Held Hostage is a film that is based on a true story of a mother that risks everything for the safety of her daughter.

Held Hostage stars Julie Benz of Dexter fame as a bank manager and a mother named Michelle Estey. One night while watching a movie with her daughter three masked men break into her home and take her and her daughter hostage. They tie a dynamite made bomb to the both of them, and Michelle is told by the men that if she wants to see her daughter alive again, she has to rob the bank she works at and give the money to them. She agrees and the next day goes to work and takes as much money as she can. However, just when she thinks things are going to get better, they only get worse. She gets her daughter back, however they soon find out that the danger is far from over.

The only thing that comes to mind is Lifetime Original Movie. That is the only way I can describe Held Hostage. The film is slow moving and there is no real flow to the plot. I found myself bored with the story as a whole as it dragged along across my television screen. Every scene seemed to be cut in such a way that story needed to be told to the fullest extent; however it was so basic that it did not need to be dragged out as long at it was. There was no suspense, no thrilling moments; just a plain old boring story with nothing good going for it.

The film has alright acting and production value but that does not help the story. It’s a film that has “Made for TV” written all over it. The DVD has no special features, just the movie. There is very little about this film that I can praise. I normally would try to find something worthwhile to talk about, but with this film being so basic and uninteresting I really don’t have much to say about it. It did have a decent plot twist, however it was enough to spark an interest. This is no film for a horror fan to enjoy, this is a film you wife mother or sister would be watching on The Lifetime Network when they are bored and have nothing to do.
