Heart Stopper is one of those films that was probably made with the fact that the filmmakers were going to try and push a theatrical release out of it. But then after pitching it around to a few companies they realized it was not good enough to get one. However the film is good enough to get a decent video release and that folks is the truth. Heart Stopper folks is your basic horror film, it’s something that we’ve all seen before, and it is by no means a ground breaking horror film. However what I liked about this film steams from the sheer fact that it was one of those horror films that, although it was predictable, you didn’t mind watching it.

After watching the first scene of Heart Stopper, two other horror films came to mind; Wes Craven Shocker and Fallen, a film that stared Denzel Washington in the late 1990’s. So you can kind of get the point of what the film is about if you saw both of those films. Pretty much it is about a notorious serial killer known as Chambers, who is on death row He is being prepared to be put to death by electrocution. A priest enters his cell to give him his last rites. However we find out from the get go, that this guy is demon who travels from body to body in order to wreak havoc upon anyone who gets in his path. But he can’t just jump into any old body that he see’s, it needs to be a special body, which for some reason in the film, unless I missed it, was never really explained. Then in walks Sara, the girl whom pretty much Chambers wants to take over. Sara tries to kill herself by standing in the middle of the road with her back to traffic. But as luck would have it, she ends up being nearly killed by the town Sheriff played by none other than Robert Englund. He ends up putting her in the back of the ambulance with Chambers charred body and takes them both off to a hospital which is to be the place where this whole film will take place. Sara is put in a hospital room with a broken leg, while Chambers body is set up in a room pending an autopsy. But while Sara sleeps, Chambers body mysteriously comes back to life and he begins to rip the hearts out of anyone in his path in order to restore the body he is in back to life. The film zig zags throughout the hospital as Chambers tries to track down Sara so he can take over her body.

The script is pretty much your basic horror plot, it’s nothing new. The plot is pretty decent, but can be slow at times. The script does not offer us anything new in terms of a this film ever being somewhat of a ground breaking memorial horror film, but one can’t say that it’s bad. Folks it’s your basic two and a half star horror film. It’s not bad, but it’s not great either. The acting is alright, nothing special, the effects are decent, there is plenty of blood and guts to fitful any horror fans need for gore, and the film has great production value. Which in this case makes Heart Stopper a film that you can watch and not feel the need to shut off, because it looks like a home made movie. Bob Keen put a pretty decent film together, one that does have a few flaws but is none the less watchable.

Overall, I can’t say that all the hardcore fans will fall head over the heels for this film, and it might not be a horror film that you might want to run out and buy or rent right away. But hey if you got two hours to kill or money burning a hole in your pocket, you might want to rent it or add it to your DVD collection. It’s not bad film, but it’s nothing perfect either, it’s just another one of those horror films that is in fact; just alright.
