Finally someone has sent me and Indie horror film that I did not feel like 2 hours of my life was taken away from me. “Director’s Cut” is an Indie film with style, it’s got all the perks of a b-movie but does it in good taste. Of course it’s got sex and drug use, but it’s done in a tasteful matter, and is actually used a method in the plot of the film, instead of being a pointless drug/sex scenes that I often complain about in my reviews of most B-movies have. it’s got comedy and gore much like the original “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” (the film pretty much plays homage to it.)
I was very pleased my the great story and the acting. I got to give credit to Kathleen Taylor, It was good to see her in another horror film, I remembered her from a Great straight to video film I saw last year called “Dark Walker”, which made my top ten list of 2003. She’s an actress to look out for; not only is she good looking ,but she can actually act. A lot can be said for the rest of the cast, a good group of great actors that was lead by great direction.
The effects were dam good, I was surprised. Not only were the gore and make-up effects believable but the costume design and art direction were great. I didn’t find metal face to be scary though, but something tells me he was not supposed to be. Cole was one messed up director though. But anyway great effects in this film that are far superior to any other low budget effects.
Overall, I really enjoyed this film, it’s was well put together. Now my only question is: what video distribution company is going to give it a run in video stores. It’s a film that deserves to be out in the market, with all the crappy ass horror films that I rent at Blockbuster this little gem looks like a Hollywood blockbuster next to them. A great film that has a great story and makes the low budget horror genre look great. Check it out if you can or buy a copy.
