Once again, here I am writing a review for another mediocre vampire film. However, this film, Dead Cert, has two parts. The first part of the film is absolutely boring and drags on and on to the point where I almost just shut off the film and walked away. But there is a catch. The second act is action-packed and great despite its low budget appeal.

Dead Cert is a Vampire vs. the Mob film. It is about a guy who builds and opens a night club which happens to be on top of a piece of sacred land claimed by a legendary vampire. The two do battle over the land. A high war begins where the two sides will fight to the death over the place.

Sounds like a simple story, and it is. The film is low budget and at times, it’s very easy to tell that this is the work of independent filmmakers. However, I give the filmmakers a lot of credit for not making a film outside of their means. Most independent filmmakers give up production value so they can make their film look fancier with cheap visuals that really never work. The filmmakers seem to know their budget and wrote the script to best use to the budget without making everything look like a giant cheesy B-movie. Sure, the vampires are generic looking, and sure, the fight scenes are basic martial arts, yet the films story comes to a perfect conclusion when it ends. The way the film starts is a different story, however. The scenes are long and dragged out and there is too much character development. However, as I said, it all comes together at the end, so the film does end on a positive note, just as long as you can get through the first half.

The Blu-ray disc has a few special features such as Audio Commentary, A making of Dead Cert Featurette and the film’s trailer.
Overall, Dead Cert can be labeled as, “Just another vampire movie” and it is, however I have to praise the filmmakers who made a film that looked good and tried to make it look as real as possible with the budget they had. It is nothing great, but I have to give credit where credit is due, good production value and the story has a conclusion. If you’re a fan of vampire and action films with the style of a Quentin Tarantino talkie, this film is for you.
