Ginger Snaps Back (The Beginning) is the prequel to the popular Canadian werewolf film “Ginger Snaps” which was a big hit. There is also a sequel “Ginger Snaps Unleashed” (Review) which was released earlier this year.

Ginger Snaps Back takes us back into the time when America was young and our ancestors were still exploring the land. It was a dangerous time with wars brewing up between settlers and natives. Well the premise of the film tells how us how the whole werewolf infection (The Curse) came to be. It stars Katharine Isabelle and Emily Perkins, both of the first film this time playing their past relatives that just so happen to share the same names as their future ancestors.

The setting alone makes this film what it is, it’s cold dark appearance and the films look, just took you back into the times when disease was common among American settlers. The sets and costumes are another major thing that bring the film to life. I also found the acting to be a lot better in this film than in the previous films and the effects seemed to have a better look to them. I enjoyed the script as well. The feel of the film is what really did it for me though, it reminded of films like Ravenous, and The 13th Warrior.

Overall I think I liked Ginger Snaps Back better than the first and second film. It more of a better story in my opinion and the pacing of the film seemed a lot faster than the other two. Well worth renting, I enjoyed it
