Ok so summer is coming and the first horror film to hit the theaters this May is Dark Castle’s “House of Wax”, yes it’s another remake of the 1953 version of “House of Wax” starring Vincent Price, however the story is different than the original, and in a ode to the late and great “Vincent Price” they named the killer after him.

There where a few things right off the bat that bothered me about this film, first off they kind of took the Paris Hilton thing way to far in the film. I almost felt at the beginning of the film that the movie was more about her than Elisha Cuthbert, whom I find to be a better actress and better looking. (But that’s my opinion.) There is a whole thing with Paris and her cell phone throughout the film (I found it funny that after her cell phone got hacked, she was on a cell phone a million times in this film.) And the whole home video shots of her and her boyfriend in the film (Robert Ri’chard) making out and the whole sex appeal thing. It was overdone in my case and took my attention away from the story. We also get a major strip tease from Paris Hilton as well. Yeah they sure aimed this film at horney teenage boys.

But onto the real deal about the film, It really started off very slow, the whole setup of the film took forever and I started to get bored. It was almost like every little detail had to be explained and no one really got killed or waxed for that matter until about a half hour into the film. But the film does pick up and the ending was pretty good. I thought at times the acting was a bit rough, Elisha Cuthbert and her brother in the film Chad Michael Murray were pretty good, but there were times when it seemed the acting was staged, and felt unrealistic.

If want to get into the effects of the films, wow does “House of Wax” have some great effects, and I’m not sure how much CGI was used, but everything looked really really good. I’d say one of the best effects jobs I’ve seen in a while. Heck, if it was not for the effects this movie would of been terrible. The ending was great, I won’t spoil it for everyone, but I had a blast watching the ending of this film. And as for the Paris Hilton death scene that was publicly told to everyone by the films producers, It was pretty dam cool the way she got killed.

Overall, It’s a mix in the pot. Some people will like it and other will just say it’s alright or not like it at all. You might want to wait until DVD and video for this one, but if you really want to see Paris get killed and a pretty good battle at the end, then go check it out. As for me, I could of waited for this film to hit DVD.
