Every year over 30,000 men, women and children are kidnapped. The majority are held for a ransom “between” $500.00 to 100 million dollars. Almost 70 percent of the total numbers of kidnappings that take place worldwide get resolved by paying the ransom amount. About 21 percent of the victims are left without ransom as the abductors feel that no ransom will be paid for their release.
The Disappearance of Alice Creed is a film about a woman named Alice that is kidnapped by two men. Her father is a wealthy man, and the abductors are holding her for a ransom of two million euros. The two men are very organized; covering up their tracks with each move they make and have even set up back plans and locations should something go wrong. However, this film has plenty of turns and twists in its plot, some of which I refuse to reveal here in my review. Let’s just say that Alice is a fighter and that the two men that kidnapped her are up for a fight.
This film is by far one of the best thrillers I have seen this year. The script is almost perfect with its style, characterization and not to mention plot twists. On that note, you’re just going to have to take my word for it; because I cannot go into to much detail other than the fact that this story revolves around a kidnapping without giving some of the key twists in the film away. This is just one of those films with a script that takes you on a wild ride. It’s intense and unpredictable.
The film has very basic production value. It is a film that was made simple and probably could have been made for well under a million dollars. There are only three actors in the whole entire film. Thus, the acting is perfect and the performances are memorable. The way in which the story is written and the characters are portrayed by the actors you are left with this uncertainty about them, but can’t help but be intrigued by them.
The Blu-ray disc does not have a lot of special features but does include Deleted and Extended Scenes with optional audio commentary. A Storyboard Featurette, and the films outtakes.
Overall, The Disappearance of Alice Creed is a great, intense thriller. It’s a film that has plenty of heart pounding moments and mind turning twists. It is a great little thriller and one of the best I have had the pleasure of viewing this year. I highly recommended checking this one out.
