Got a kidney to spare? In a nutshell this film is pretty much about a kidney, well not really but it revolves around organ theft. “Koma” revolves around the urban legend of organ theft, hence the whole wake up in a bathtub thing, where your body is on ice and your missing a kidney. In this film however its about two women who play a “cat and mouse” game with one another. One of them needs something bad that the other one has, and you get the hint from there.
“Koma” starts off with a bang, but it’s not in the sense of a huge horrific scene rather than a big disturbing one using the less is more routine somewhat. The film does get a little slow but then picks back up quite fast. There is the usual amount of gore in this film but it’s not over the top as some Asian films are known for. Its just right. There is more suspense than gore which helps with the mood of the story. In my book that’s a good thing!!!
On the acting, it was alright, some of the screaming and worrying got a bit out of hand and at times started to get annoying. there were time that I felt like jumping though my Television screen and slapping the actors across the face and tell them to stop be so over dramatic. However towards the end things get a little better and the acting seems to pan out just fine.
Overall not a bad flick at all, it had a great style to it, similar to “A Tale of Two Sisters”. It also had great production value as well. So I say give it a shot and rent it. If your big into Asian horror you might want to go ahead and pick a copy of it up for yourself.
