You might be asking yourself why I’m reviewing a television series that appears on The History Channel. It’s simple really. The History Channel has plenty of shows that can be considered science fiction like documentaries. Such is the case with LIFE AFTER PEOPLE. If you managed to catch the first LIFE AFTER PEOPLE documentary that aired last year. You know that it was one hell of a great documentary that theorized what would happen to the world if humans just disappeared. The show was so popular that History has decided to make series out of the idea and was kind enough to let me get a sneak peak at the first episode which airs on The History Channel, Tuesday, April 21st at 10/9c.

The first episode of the series focuses on what would happen to the bodies that are left behind. it pretty much starts with the likes of people who’s bodies are frozen in liquid nitrogen, Lenin’s body on display in Russia, frozen human embryos, and mummies. It also talks about what would happen to the space station as well as what would happen to building along the coast lines. It even talks about how the human existence would live on almost fifty years after we disappeared though animals such as parrots who have learned to speak before we disappeared. It also talks about what would happen to some of our most famous building and structures if we were not here to take care of them.

There are a few things from the original show that do appear in this show as well, mainly a lot of what would happen to structures and cities, but pretty much we actually do learn a lot of new things that were not covered in the original show. There is a lot of estimation on how long it would take without the care of humans that buildings will crumble. The Statue of Liberty is covered and what would happen to her after we’re gone and the stature falls into the east river. A really cool thing they talk about is how long they expect the ceiling of the Sixteenth Chapel to last. This is all really neat and cool to learn about, but the cool thing is the theories of what is to come after all traces of us are gone, and what little things of us would survive after say one hundred million years.

I am a big fan of almost everything that is on The History Channel. I love MONSTERQUEST, THE UNIVERSE and UFO HUNTERS, and tend to catch every special they show. I’ll be tuning into The History Channel to check out the LIFE AFTER PEOPLE series, it’s really a great show and I can’t praise it enough. Look for series to continue though the first week of May with different things happening every week.
