“The Last Broadcast” was supposed to be the Blair Witch film that never made it to the screen. The fact of the matter was, that this film; The Last Broadcast was actually made before The Blair Witch Project. Blair Witch got lucky when it got picked up by Artisan. Last Broadcast never saw a big screen, wide release and there was actually a lawsuit filed against the filmmakers of The Blair Witch Project from the producers of this film claiming that their idea for a reality based movie, was stolen. I don’t know the whole story, But supposedly this was the case. If you want my opinion, The Blair Witch Project was not only a better more believable production, but it was also a lot more suspenseful. The Last Broadcast had the suspense thing going for it, and in fact I really enjoyed most of the film. It just that the whole thing feel apart at the end. And what seemed like a great documentary ended up turning into a joke at the end. And I’m not talking about something funny.

The documentary is about a crew of guys from a local cable access program called Fact or Fiction, set out to find the jersey devil. They plan on doing the first internet broadcast as well as a live feed broadcast as well as a video documentary. Out of the four men who went into the woods that night, only one of them made it out alive. He in fact was convicted of the murders and later died in jail. This film covers all these events leading up to the arrest of the survivor, and the events that blow the case back open after his conviction. What we get is a great documentary that starts off great, then just totally goes down in hill in the last ten minutes of the film. At least with Blair Witch Project we were lead to believe that the events that unfolded at the end of the film were real. Although we all know two weeks after it was released in theaters the filmmakers came out into the public to reveal it was all a marketing ploy, which worked. with The :Last Broadcast we’re lead to believe everything is true, but then the real killer is revealed at the end and you know the film is just one be joke meant to scare up the audience. It didn’t scare me, in fact I was disappointed that it ended the way it did.

So overall, if you watch this film, you’ll see a very well made documentary film, that is ruined with a ridiculous ending. I for one was very, very disappointed. I wanted so bad to believe that this story was actually real, but of coarse in the end, we find out its not. Maybe if I saw this film before I saw Blair Witch in 1998, I might of at least considered it to be a one of kind movie. But now with all the hype of reality television and everything. It just another movie that started off good, and in the end I walked away empty handed. It’s worth the watch to see what all the hype was about this film and it’s comparison to the Blair Witch Project. But in the end I’m sure you’ll agree, Blair Witch it is not.
